A new charity has been launched in the North West of the UK to provide weddings to terminally ill brides and grooms.

Based in Manchester, 'Gift of a Wedding’, aims to fulfill dreams and create memories by gifting free weddings to people with a terminal or life shortening illness. Available to any UK resident, regardless of age, race, gender or religion, the charity provides unparalleled customer service, ensuring it continues to foster stronger relationships with both its patrons and partners locally and nationally.

Established in 2012 by Patricia Harrison, its founder and chair is an experience wedding planner having worked in the wedding industry for over 10 years. The idea came after Patricia offered her help to plan the wedding of a man aged 27 who was dying of brain cancer. After securing donations of goods and services valued at over £10,000.00 she made his and his bride’s dreams come true by gifting them both a beautiful wedding.

How does the Charity Provide Free Wedding Services?
Gift of a Wedding can provide weddings through donations of goods and services from experienced and trustworthy UK wedding and hospitality professionals, who have been through the charity’s strict vetting process. This generosity, coupled with the generous help from the public, allows the charity to gift dream weddings.
"Getting married for most people is probably one of the most emotional and expensive days of their lives. Imagine what it must be like, therefore, for someone with a terminal illness who does not have the time, strength or finances to create a day that most of us take for granted,” said Patricia Harrison, the founder of Gift of a Wedding. “Gift of a Wedding aims to give people with a terminal or life shortening illness living in the North West of England stunning wedding days courtesy of generous businesses working in the UK wedding industry. "

How to Get Involved
The charity is asking brides and grooms from the Greater Manchester area, who have been married, to donate their dresses and suits along with any other wedding accessories or even bridesmaid outfits. Further details will be released on their website about various collection points throughout Greater Manchester.
